iwanttofeelbetterGetting older has many ups and downs but knowing what and how to handle physical changes is the key to a happy healthy life.  Around 35 years of age a women will start to lose between 5-10% of their lean muscle mass.  That Lean muscle mass is then turned into fat around the age of 45 or so and that is why women start to see those physical body changes.   As a woman I can totally agree with this because I am now 52 and I too started to see those changes and finally decided to do something about it.


Changing my eating habits and adding more protein and learning to like resistance training was the key to why I have become healthy and fit.  Working out with weights at least 3-4 times a week was essential to changing that loss of lean muscle mass and gaining back my body and feeling better about myself.   Don’t get me wrong, you will still need to add a cardiovascular workout to get that heart rate going and to burn that fat but resistance is key to a successful healthy lifestyle.


I remember when I was younger skipping meals was the way I handled not gaining weight.  But, boy was a wrong.  Now that I am a Personal Fitness Trainer and a Ruby Beachbody Coach I have learned so much about how the body will react to deficits in calories and proper nutrition.   When people cut down on their calories by as much as 25% or eat 890 calories or less they affect their RMR.  RMR is the total rate used up by the body in using fuel or burning calories but at times that we are just not doing anything or while resting.  This means that if you are not eating enough you are losing muscle mass and not fat.  This is a unhealthy way to try to lose weight.

Eating protein will be key and adding this to your daily nutrition will increase your odds of getting healthy.  An active woman will need .05 to .075 grams of protein per body weight according to Nancy Clark, RD, the author of Nancy Clark’s Sports Nutrition Guidebook.   For instance, if you weigh 140 pounds this would be a typical daily protein intake of 2.469 to 2.7038 ounces:

  • one egg
  • six ounces of Greek yogurt
    0.5997 ounces
  • two tablespoons of almond butter
  • four-ounce salmon fillet
  • cup of pinto beans

Healthy Image

A healthy image of ones self I feel is more important than a fit body.  Not only should you get into shape but your mind and soul needs to be in the right place.  Reaching out to others and helping them to find where God needs them to be is so important that he commanded it:  John 3:16,17  16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

Finding a way to help others can sometimes be difficult because every person is at a different place in their lives. Learning to connect with that person is important because I believe that listening to people instead of doing the talking you gain a lot of insight to where someone is at and where they might be headed.  God has a way of opening doors if we are willing to go through them to help others.

I have always enjoyed talking to people and never have wanted to not include anyone no matter what walk of light they may be in.  Remembering not to let success take over my world and wanting to give back is a way of keeping myself in check at all times.  My life has not been anything special except for the people who have been and have come in to it.  I have been very fortunate to have been brought up by two loving parents who have taught me to love God first, Family and friends second and myself last.  They gave me total love that has gotten me through a lot of trials in my life.  My Mom has shown me a kind of love that goes beyond anything that I could have ever imagined.  She took care of my Dad during his 1st round of radiation and his second round along with Chemo.  When he fell and broke his neck and was paralyzed, she was there to take care of him with every ounce of love and strength that she could give him.  Once the cancer had returned my Dad and Mom prepared each of us as a family on what to expect during his last days.  They both gave all of us more than just a preparation of what was to come but they gave their love on how to get through this very difficult time as a Family.

My Family, Terry (my husband), Joshua (my son), and his Fiance Melinda, Courtney (my daughter) and her husband Tony have always been an incredible supporters and given me nothing but their love.  God blessed us with our first Granddaughter Madison and she has totally been the light of my life.  Turning 50 has brought about many changes.  I have learned to totally give my life to God and for the first time I can truly say that I am where he wants me to be.  Giving of myself to others has really changed my self-image because it took me away from focusing on me and put the focus on helping others.  In turn, my life is better than I could have ever imagined.  There is no better feeling than helping others to feel better about themselves.  Helping them to change their diet so that can be healthy and helping them to get into shape.
